The death of Dutch composer Louis Andriessen at the age of 82 has left a huge hole in the contemporary music community. Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini, who sung the title role in Andriessen’s violent and beautiful opera Rosa - The Death of a Composer, joins Andy to remember his musical talent and unique theatricality. And one of Andriessen’s students, composer Damien Ricketson, remembers his teacher for his political ideals, his wisdom, and his impact on the next generation of musicians.

Saxophonist and composer Katia Beaugeais’ new album Breath by Breath includes a piece she’s written for herself which sees her circular breathing – that is playing without interruption, breathing in through the nose whilst pushing air out the mouth – for seven minutes straight. She joins Andy to reveal the mysteries of the saxophone and what she’s learned from being both performer and composer.

Plus new releases from some Music Show favourites – Caroline Shaw with Sō Percussion, and Susan O’Neill with Mick Flannery.
