The debut album of the amazing group of guitarist Paweł Mańka "Semiotic Quintet", which was released by the SJRecords publishing house during the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days festival at Klub Stodoła in Warsaw on 11.07.2021.
Paweł Mańka Semiotic Quintet was founded in 2018 in Katowice. The sound of the band combines the concepts of contemporary classical composers with the freedom and rhythmic language of jazz. The group's repertoire consists of the leader's compositions, in which dense, multi-layered, strictly written structures contrast with spontaneous or selectively restrained improvisation. The name refers to semiotics - the general theory of signs. Signs are the basis of communication, which in turn is a key aspect of improvised music
In 2020, Paweł Mańka Semiotic Quintet was a laureate of the most prestigious Polish jazz band competitions - Jazz Juniors and Jazz Nad Odrą, and at the beginning of 2021 also of the Jazz Phonographic Debut 2021 program organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
Paweł Mańka - composer, arranger and jazz guitarist, b. in 1996; A scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage as part of the Young Poland program, a graduate of the jazz guitar class at the Academy of Music in Katowice and a composition student at Syddansk Musikkonservatorium in Odense.
