With these newly written organ preludes, Cathedral Cantor Kåre Nordstoga places old religious folk songs in the classical and expressive tonal world of the church organ. For many years Nordstoga has collaborated with various folk musicians and written arrangements of Norwegian religious folk songs for ensembles. He focusses on folk songs not only as isolated melodies, but also on the distinctive performer traditions associated with the musical material. The melodies that emerge along the way, one in each prelude, are presented in more or less original form without traditional variation techniques. They spread themselves around, piece by piece, together with motifs from other traditional material, spontaneously and free, as is often the case when two worlds meet. The 12 preludes become working music, to be used later both together and individually. The work is planned to be recorded.
