Continuing a string of successful recording projects, New Orleans musical artist Kelcy Mae presents a double EP, Half-Light. The full-length album combines her two most recent recording efforts, The Fire EP (re-mastered) & Half-Light. The recordings have launched Kelcy Mae into the national spotlight with U.S. tours, regional festival performances, and designation as a “Pepsi Southern Original” finalist in a competition that culminated in featured performances at Gulf Coast Jam country music festival in Panama City Beach, Florida. In December, The Fire EP was nominated for Best Country/Folk Album in the Best of the Beat Awards by Offbeat Magazine.
Half-Light is the fourth recording project by Kelcy Mae, and it marks her boldest foray yet into the rich tradition of pop music at its finest—energetic, smart and inventive. Expanding on her signature Americana style, the new album features infectious hooks and catchy melodies to accompany the poetic lyrics that are a Kelcy Mae calling card. The song "Favor" has already become a fan favorite and is set to be released for radio/media play this month. Half-Light in its entirety is a beautifully-done tribute to Kelcy Mae's musical influences as it moves seamlessly from roots and folk-inflected tunes to blues and rock ‘n’ roll arrangements. Through it all, Kelcy Mae maintains her unique style and voice which is rooted in the intimate themes of love, friendship, joy and heartbreak. Like the best of popular music, tracks such “Bright Eyes,” “Crazy,” or “My Love” not only grab a listener’s attention with great beats, riffs and instrumentation, but they resonate with heartfelt emotion, too.
Producers on the Half-Light double EP include:
Kelcy Mae, Jason Rhein of Elephant Quilt Productions, and Rick Nelson of Marigny Recording Studios.
Performers on the album make up a remarkable collective of local and national talent:
Rick Nelson (Afghan Whigs, Polyphonic Spree), Jason Rhein (Rotary Downs), Alex McMurray, Alexis Marceaux (Alexis & the Samurai, Sweet Crude), Andrew Campanelli and Michael Girardot (The Revivalists), Vanessa Niemann (Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Review), Alexandra Scott, Mitch Palmer (Michael Hurtt & His Haunted Hearts, Happy Talk Band), Lucy Cordts, Chris Nicotera, Joe Stolarick, Sam Cordts, Ian Smith, Travis Blotsky, Tom Marron and others.
The album will be available through iTunes, CDBaby, Amazon.com, and retail outlets both locally and nationwide, including The Louisiana Music Factory, Euclid, and Barnes & Noble. Additionally, it will be available for Kelcy Mae fans and listeners on Spotify, Pandora and other web-based music apps and services.
Kelcy Mae’s 2011 release, Pennies in Hand, was previously named one of the Top 10 New Orleans Albums of the Year by the New Orleans Times Picayune, and Kelcy Mae was nominated for Best Singer/Songwriter by Offbeat Magazine.
