John Bull can be considered as the first international star of keyboard, thanks to his legendary virtuosity and his adventurous life. He was also a very skilled composer, the greatest of virginalists after William Byrd. Bob van Asperen performs this anthology on a beautiful Ruckers harpsichord of 1624: a choice far from being innocent, as the Ruckers family and John Bull were both active in Antwerp in the 1620.
