Earl ''Fatha'' Hines, George Shearing - Piano Men (1990)

This sampler of Earl Hines' Bluebird recordings features five brilliant piano solos from the often breathtaking pianist, "Blues in Thirds" by Sidney Bechet's Trio with Hines and 16 of the better performances from his big band of 1939-1942. An excellent purchase for those not familiar with Hines' big-band days, this CD includes such classics as "Piano Man," "Boogie Woogie on St. Louis Blues," and "Jelly, Jelly" along with many hot swinging performances from this very underrated orchestra.~Scott Yanow
