The rare and flamboyant programme designed by Paolo Carlini brings to light an instrument which is given insufficient consideration as a soloist by the composers of today, despite being among the first to evolve technically.
In the Sixties, it was the bassoon which identified and pioneered the new sounds of wind instruments, following research on multiples (the playing of more than one sound at the same time) by Bruno Bartolozzi and Sergio Penazzi.
Furthermore, the range, agility and tonal variety of the bassoon have offered twentieth-century stylistic comparisons of which this anthology puts forward several interesting versions for the solo instrument.
