Blues for Sabine gets its name from the piece written for Sabine Meyer by the famous jazzman and arranger Torrie Zito. As its title suggests, this eclectic recording includes pieces at the boundaries of the classical tradition, from Zito’s arrangement of the Billy Strayhorn standard Chelsea Bridge to works by avant:garde jazz composers such as Rolf Kühn or Christoph Cech. It also features modern works by Stravinsky, Poulenc and the mischievous quartet of Jean Françaix. Sabine Meyer is supported by jazz clarinetist Eddie Daniels and her partners from the Trio di Clarone, including her brother Wolfgang.
