These Hands was Jimmy Dean's final album for RCA, and it's easy to see why the label didn't keep him on. Even though "The One You Say Good Mornin' To" inched into the country Top 40, nothing on the album works very well, from Dean's homely ballad efforts to the forced humor of "(The Ballad Of) Big Ole Sam" and the execrable "Aunt Maudie's Fun Garden." Jerry Bradley and Felton Jarvis split the production chores 50/50, and Jarvis seemed more driven to experiment with Dean and push him in different directions, resulting in the aforementioned novelties and "Love Looks Good on You," on which Dean croons in an affected Eddy Arnold voice. Aside from the hit, which isn't particularly memorable, These Hands will be of interest only to completists.
