"It’s alright to take it slow, not belong to the fool’s show, it’s alright to be on hold. To find the heart of gold"
A snippet of one of the tiny stories that appear on Ella Ray’s debut album “Reveries”. As a songwriter Ella Ray (Antwerp, Belgium) likes to blend soul, jazz and even gospel into her own sweet songs.
Inspired by her grandmother, an opera singer, she began composing songs on piano at a very young age. Over the years she experimented with different sounds, from neo-soul to hip hop to old school soul and gospel, in search of her own sound. This resulted in quite a few live shows and in 2011 she even opened for soul legend Bettye Lavette.
After a musical break she went back to basics: composing only on piano and learning how to play a few chords on the guitar. In the summer of 2014 she started a collaboration with Jan Willems (BRZZVLL, Humb) who helped her finetuning her songs. Later that year they recorded the songs on a two-day long session with some great guest musicians, such as Jokke Schreurs, Bjorn Eriksson and many more.
And so here it is: Ella Ray’s long-awaited debut album “Reveries”. Check out the album and join one of the live shows.
