Levert - For Real Tho' (1993)

This album is not as commendable as their previous ones. Most of the numbers lack the catchy hook lines and spine-chilling melodies. Gerald Levert's vocal presence is minimal, and moreover, the selections that bear his lead are average at best. Nonetheless, the album did have a few bright spots. It reared a Billboard R&B Top Ten single in "ABC-123" and a Top 20 single in "Good Ol' Days." The latter was the first release, harboring a rumbling bassline in which the group shares lead vocal duties. It managed to peak at #12 after ten weeks. The former has a sweet, sensual charm. With Gerald's commanding vocals out front through the verses, Sean imparts a noticeably orchestrated pre-hook lyric. The two further their vocal exchange in the vamp. The third single was "Do the Thangs." It too has total group participation vocally. However, as with most of the tracks, the effort falls short.
