kapelle17 is an up and coming jazz ensemble hailing from the south of Germany.
The five musicians, none older than 24, met in jazz school in 2017 and immediately felt the spark of life and creativity in their playing together. Because of this, they decided to get out and perform extensively as a band.
The line-up is inspired by great groups in the nowadays classic quintet formation of tenor sax, electric guitar, piano (occasionally electric piano), acoustic bass and drums. Their repertoire contains mostly original compositions in a wide range from elastic polyrhytmical grooving to dark and bright sonic landscape improvisations.
A powerful selection was presented on their first self-released album „Music For Young Business People“ in 2018. Still, kapelle17 desires to play whatever they want to play, so they regularly throw in some treasures from the never-ending jazz repertoire where saxophonist Benedikt Jäckle and guitarist Johannes Mann depart into extended adventurous improvisations while pianist Paul Janoschka, bassist Jakob Obleser and drummer Jonas Kaltenbach create a carefully detailed but strong underground in support or challenge to the soloist.
The band delivers a fresh and exiting energy to their audiences and promote the accessibility of modern jazz for the younger generation as a music to chill, dance, or do anything to.
