The band named their second album "New Miserable Experience". The first single from the album Hey Jealousy, was a Top 25 Hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went gold. That song largely fueled the success of the album along with the writing talents of Doug Hopkins, Jesse Valenzuela and Robin Wilson. Another Top 25 Hit from the album: "Found Out About You" was released by A&M Records as the A-Side of a 7-inch 45 RPM vinyl single (Along with other formats) with "Hey Jealousy" on the B-Side (Found Out About You), and was played many times by jukeboxes in thousands of restaurants & bars around the United States. Three other charting singles were released from the album which were: Allison Road, a 1994 remix of: Until I Fall Away was issued on the B-Side of that 7-inch vinyl single and Mrs Rita in different formats in other countries. Eventually it earned quadruple platinum status (▲4). Unfortunately, when the album took off with runaway sales, it was overshadowed by Doug Hopkins death by suicide on December 5th, 1993. Scott Johnson was chosen by the band in December 1993 as Hopkins' stand-in on tour, and became a permanent member in 1994.
