It's difficult to gauge how a major label was going to market a release like this in 1970 -- it wasn't nearly slick enough for the country charts, and not nearly folkloric enough to be geared to a purist audience. It's just fairly solid country with a straight-ahead, unprepossessing feel that was anachronistic (in a good way) in 1970, with good harmonies, tinges of bluegrass, and decent material, especially the closing "Turner's Turnpike." Dillards fans, for instance, should take a quick liking to it.
