Sierra Boggess, Julian Ovenden - Together At A Distance (2021) [Hi-Res]

When Julian and I first sang together back in 2010, we knew we had something unique as a duo. We felt like we had this blend, this similar musicianship, this desire to honor the composer’s works, and a mutual love of the classics. For a decade I would always look forward to the times we would get to make music together. During this time, this year of uncertainty and distance, we decided that it wasn’t an option to stop singing together! We found a way! We daydreamed over FaceTime about what songs we have always wanted to sing together. We laughed about different videos we could create that would bring people hope and joy through this difficult time. We started from a place of desire to keep creating, and thus Together At A Distance was born! We have always loved singing together live, and now to have recorded this album to share with all of you is a dream come true. This album was built from pure desire to make music with each other no matter what! These are the songs we longed to sing together, an ocean apart. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!

One of the great joys of being a performer, one might say the greatest, is the thrill of collaboration you get when working with other like-minded souls. This has largely been taken away from us during these difficult times and we are all the poorer for it. I think it was this feeling that motivated Sierra and I to embark on this little project. It started out really as a fun exercise, a creative way to ward away the pandemic blues if you will! Neither of us had any real experience in producing and we didn’t know how far technology could take us. However, with a little application (YouTube) and experimentation (many fails), we realised we could actually create something that wasn’t half bad. And so the idea of Together At A Distance was born. Creating a song and making a somewhat silly video to go with it brought us such joy. The simple act of creating something that wasn’t there before made us feel better about the world that we were missing so much and it also seemed to strike a chord with the folk who were watching and listening. Now with this record we get the chance to make these tracks as good as they can be with a proper producer and real-life musicians, however we are still 3,459 miles apart. We have been so lucky over the years to be part of such amazing music making and this opportunity only reaffirms how much we can’t wait to getting back to being in the same room.
