høbama was born early 2016 during Danish trumpet player and composer Claus Højensgård’s two-years stay in Bologna. Emanuele, who had just returned from a longer stay in Copenhagen, was introduced to Claus by common friends and decided for form a bass-less trio with Nelide Bandello on the drums.
Claus Højensgård plays with a distinctive voice and a precise vocabulary on his trumpet in a language that is both melodic and expressive. He moves naturally and with a big curiosity within a wide range of genres in a way of playing that is always present and daring.
Emanuele Maniscalco and Nelide Bandello are both courageous and strong musicians with open ears, hearts and minds.
For this album the trio invited the super talented Danish bass player Anders ‘AC’ Christensen to join. He has played with Paul Motian, Tomasz Stańko and many others.
"This album is a documentation of a musical meeting in the studio. We had one day, one reel of analog tape, which meant limited time for recording and a demand to choose on the spot what to keep and what to delete. We had no preconceptions or expectations of what was going to happen. We basically pressed record and played.”
