"I'm Not Who You Think I Am" is a reinvention of Genevieve Jaide, and an attempt to capture the compiling emotions of a young person navigating their way through life using different genres and styles. It is full of old and new songs written during and before the world shut down. Each song is different from one another in terms of a theme, yet, if you listen closely, you may find a familiar string that runs through all the stories like your favourite sweater.
The title "I'm Not Who You Think I Am" comes from the lyrics of the second track on the album, "4th Cup of Coffee". Picture a Sunday morning after a long night of mistakes. You are sitting on the floor trying to ground yourself and not let the anxiety of the night before slip into your thoughts. You inevitably comb through every moment of last night and realize that the things you were trying to say may have not come across. You worry that the person who thinks they know you doesn’t really know you at all. How do we ever really know someone? During your 4th cup of coffee, the jitters have sunk in. You have now thoroughly analyzed every interaction from the previous night, week, year, and it’s a fact: you’re not who they think you are. That’s okay, neither am I. I hope this album helps you through your wandering moments like it has helped me through mine.
