Black Hulled Ships - Empty Spaces (2021) [Hi-Res]

A veteran of the great early 00s Manchester DIY scene and the seminal Akoustik Anarkhy record label as guitarist, songwriter and producer in Autokat and Yacht Club, I have returned to writing and producing music and video as Black Hulled Ships after a ten year hiatus to raise a family. My latest work, the 11 track album Empty Spaces, is cut from the same musically anarchic and eclectic cloth. Recorded over 2 years and culminating during the pandemic, Empty Spaces is the sound of a me rekindling my love for the process of making music. It is an homage to and celebration of family, friends and the act of musical creation and me just having fun, being creative and writing about my experiences of love, sadness, wonder and joy. The music I’ve made as Black Hulled Ships ranges from riotous 2 minute rock tracks and introspective sing-along anthems to tongue-in-cheek silliness and psychedelic adventures through the solar system. Empty Spaces features a subtle blend of live instruments, samples, sequencers, programmed beats and 808s and includes contributions from three generations of my family alongside spoken word samples of Paul McCartney, a venerable Buddhist monk, Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough. Empty Spaces will be released on December 1st
