Milwaukee’s Doghouse Flowers occupy that pure “country” zone about as well as anyone these days, effortlessly serving up twangy tales of heartbreak and drinking (though not necessarily in that order) with zero traces of radio-friendly cynicism or indie-cred irony. (Matt Wild)
Americana Music Show, May 2014 Doghouse Flowers know how to make that achy bittersweet country rock that fits in with that perfect roadhouse bar that exists only in your mind. The one where Waylon Jennings plays every night and your friends always save a place for you. It's the everyman, blue collar hardworking rock and roll in the same vein as the Old 97's. (Calvin Powers)
Milwaukee Magazine, April 2014 Lead singer/songwriter Justin Reuther kicks off the tune “Meet Me in Milwaukee”, lamenting his former hometown (New Orleans) and his new MKE roost on Doghouse Flowers’ debut, CHASING THE SUN. But the feel of this CD lies in between the two cities – in Nashville, where the lyrics suggest the charms and pitfalls of everyman barroom blues… Twangy and sad, foot-stomping and drunken, this is a young man’s country album…Stylish and familiar, the release sets up the right vibe for a night of drinking.
