“Silencio Ensordecedor'' ('deafening silence') is a song cycle composed between Juan's son's birth in September of 2019 and his father's passing in January of 2021. It is deeply influenced by the seemingly opposite feelings that both experiences convey: life and death, love, despair, hope, and that crushing, deafening silence that seems to appear when there are no words or acts that can contain the situation we are going through. It's been his goal to turn absence into music that would transform the emptiness into something better.
This record also works as a great description of the state of jazz in Buenos Aires in 2021, pairing international star Leo Genovese with a multi-generational band that includes young up-and-comers Lucas Goicoechea and Fran Cossavella but also legendary trumpeter Juan Cruz De Urquiza, key figure to the development of Argentinean Jazz of the last 30 years as founding member of the mythic Quinteto Urbano.
