"Although this project (organized and produced by Teddy Charles) was ostensibly supposed to feature the stereo sound of percussion, it instead is of greatest interest due to its trumpeters. Three different groups are featured and, although there are extra percussionists on each song, there are also spots for trumpeters Booker Little (these are some of his rarest recordings), Donald Byrd, Marcus Belgrave, and the young Don Ellis, along with trombonist Curtis Fuller, baritonist Pepper Adams, and pianists Mal Waldron and Bill Evans. The music (mostly originals except Charlie Parker's "Chasin' the Bird") is forward-looking bop, with the trumpeters outshining the percussionists. This obscure set is a happy surprise."
