The Chapin Sisters - A Date with The Everly Brothers (2013)

The Everly Brothers brought tight country harmonies to rock 'n' roll in the '50s. Ever since, musicians from The Beatles to Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris to She & Him have tried to re-create the duo's magic, often coming up with their own unique sounds in the process. The Chapin Sisters, unlike many other groups said to be family, are indeed sisters; their dad happens to be folk singer Tom Chapin (brother of fellow folk singer Harry Chapin). With their genetics clearly lined up to work wonders, The Chapin Sisters deliver on that promise. Their work is made slightly easier by the fact that The Everly Brothers' catalog is filled with gorgeous songs that never wear out. "All I Have to Do Is Dream," "When Will I Be Loved," "Cathy's Clown," and "Love Hurts" may have been played and covered a thousand times over, but there's still a lingering poignancy that preserves their magic. The Chapin Sisters are in the Goldilocks zone—neither too respectful of the original arrangements nor too wild with their interpretations.
