Derek Gripper - One Night On Earth (2022) Hi-Res

In June of 2021 I drove the four hours to the Garden Route of South Africa and revisited the little chapel where I recorded One Night on Earth in a single all-night session in 2011. Howard Butcher, who recorded the album, arranged a small concert with twenty people in attendance (for Covid restrictions) and we recorded the concert on a reel to reel recorder, changing the rolls of tape as the concert proceeded (we used three reels).

The concert was during the day because of South Africa's 9pm curfew. So that night I went into the forest on Howard's farm (Peace of Eden) and sat very quietly for 43 minutes with my mics rolling once more. This time to record the sound of crickets which have become such an integral part of the original recording.

The audio of the concert and the 43 minute cricket sit were combined and that is what you have here: One Night on Earth: Live in 2021
