Guitarist Mimi Fox has long been a fixture in the San Francisco Bay area. A fine hard bop-based guitarist with a sound of her own (that sometimes hints a little at Grant Green), Fox is in excellent form throughout this CD. Backed on most selections by a local trio, Fox alternates stimulating originals with such standards as "Night and Day" and "My Romance." This set (recorded at a couple of clubs in 1991-1992, and before a live audience in a studio in 1995) concludes with an eight-minute, three-song unaccompanied medley during which Mimi Fox shows off her talents on acoustic guitar.
