Throughout the mid to late seventies Reggae was dominated by what became widely known as roots a term that described songs concerned with the rastafarian faith, political wrongdoings or cultural heritage.

By the following decade, the style had been superseded by dancehall, but outside Jamaica, it continued to thrive and influence new generations of songwriters the world over.

Stand And Give Praise brings together 40 roots classics from the genres heyday, written and performed by many of its greatest protagonists, and produced by some of its most influential creators.

Chronologically compiled, the collection provides a fascinating history lesson in the development of the style and Jamaican music throughout this period – and with almost every track making the debut on Trojan, it is undoubtedly one of the most significant compilations of classic reggae of 2010.
