One of the most respected and inventive musicians within Afro-Cuban music, Román Díaz presents his first album for Motéma Records, L'ó Dá Fún Bàtá. An Olú Aña (“keeper of the sacred drum”) in his community, Díaz brings together the tradition of Bàtá drumming and the sounds of a Yoruba women's choir, interspersed with recitations of oracle poetry by Díaz himself, making this both an engaging and deeply spiritual collection.
