On the one hand, Putzu Idu is an old-fashioned album. Franz Hellmüller, guitar, Patrick Sommer, double bass, Martin Perret, drums, a classic trio line-up that also attaches great importance to collecting eight songs on an album with as few sound-cosmetic trappings as possible. On the other hand, that has its appeal. Because it's about the basis, about storytelling and communication, about motivic strolling and structural reduction, the sharpening and exhausting of rhythms, about sounds between rock-distorted texture and lines dancing in the reverberation, about the limits of pathos and laconicism. The pieces have something refreshingly brittle about them. They give the impression that they want to be played, regardless of whether anyone has anything to say about them.
