Cal Collins' recordings for the Concord label are surprisingly scarce (none have yet been reissued on CD) considering their high quality. This quartet date with pianist Larry Vuckovich, bassist Bob Maize, and drummer Jeff Hamilton is one of the guitarist's finest due to the high quality of the songs and the inspired playing by the musicians. The music falls between swing and bop and is highlighted by "Blues on My Mind," "I Love You, Samantha," "Marie," and "Dream a Little Dream of Me." This LP is worth searching for, at least until Concord gets around to reissuing their valuable Cal Collins recordings.
