Here, violin and lute each play solo music by Bach and his contemporary Silvius Leopold Weiss, and come together for Bach’s Suite in A Major—itself an arrangement of a lute suite by Weiss, so both composers deserve the credit. Johannes Pramsohler, well known for his work with Ensemble Diderot, is an elegant and imaginative violinist with much to say and an appealing musical personality, too. The lutenist Jadran Duncumb, a frequent partner of Pramsohler, is a perfect foil, utterly at home in the idiom and conjuring some glorious sounds from his instrument.
