Terry and Monica are former members of the vocal trio Gyrlz, whom many argue were the first ‘New Jill Swing’ group. Managed by former Gyrlz member Tara, Terry and Monica relaunched their flagging career by signing to Epic Records and releasing the Kev Boogie-produced debut single, ‘Oh Huh’. They also gained attention for ‘I’ve Been Waiting’, their contribution to the soundtrack of the John Singleton feature movie Poetic Justice, starring Janet Jackson and 2Pac. Their 1994 debut release was a palatable, energetic selection that crossed hip-hop with R&B and offered many pro-feminist messages: ‘Since we represent females, we want to encourage them to help build their self-worth’, they told the US press.
