With their debut "Ask Me Now" and the formation called Regener Pappik Busch, the three musicians Sven Regener on the trumpet, Richard Pappik on the drums and Ekki Busch on the piano managed a nice surprise.
These three gentlemen are known as musicians of the rock group Element Of Crime and in 2022, a year later, they followed up with a second work entitled »Things To Come«, taking it straight to the top of the German charts in March Hit the jazz charts.
This album impresses with the unmistakable love of the three musicians for improvisation and with their unmistakable joy in playing instruments. The sound spectrum of this remarkable trio ranges from hard and rough to sensitive and graceful, an exciting and also virtuosic parkour between experimental free jazz and jazz classicism. The repertoire of this record is enriched by varied and sometimes unusual interpretations of famous pieces by Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman et alteri.
»The good thing about the concept is that we play pieces that others have written, that have maybe been recorded thousands of times... but we play them with our sound, in our way, with our means. We improvise in our way, we add our way. That's a very interesting approach. Basically something like 'James Last', only very different. We are a very rustic trio. Trios have the quality of being very direct. You can hear all three instruments very loud. No one can hide behind anything else. That's also what makes the recordings so interesting, because you can't hide anything, and we also like to keep rough edges in the music. Our aim is to make a very direct, almost crude form of jazz music that goes straight to the heart and ears«, says Sven Regener. »That's our style. Actually a very punk approach«.
The trio Regener Pappik Busch and the rock band Element Of Crime are united by an almost identical line-up and an avant-garde mission, which can easily be guessed as its starting point in the blues and thus repeatedly opens up new and surprising musical terrain.
