You Can’t Take It When You’re Gone was written between 2019 right up until the recording sessions at Nat’s home in early 2021 - ‘the summer between lockdowns’. The title is a phrase Nat’s late grandfather would often use - a bittersweet sentiment on living in and for the moment. This sentiment pervades the album throughout, alongside themes of love and longing: for people, for place, for sense of self.
