Stoney Edwards - Mississippi You're On My Mind (1974)

Mississippi, You're on My Mind looks like a straight album, but is a collection of cuts from Stoney Edwards' previous three albums, including his two biggest hits (the title track and "She's My Rock") and arguably his greatest song, the self-penned "Two Dollar Toy." Like Charley Pride, Edwards recorded a number of hard country songs like "Hank and Lefty Raised My Country Soul" that helped the overwhelmingly white country audience accept a black country singer, but Edwards' musical outlook was pure country, and he must have found such material to his liking anyway. Unlike Pride, Edwards composed a number of his songs and proved himself to be a respectable songsmith. All but a few selections on Mississippi, You're on My Mind are duplicated on Razor & Tie's greatest-hits anthology, which is the recommended sampler for inquisitive listeners.
