Arctic Lake make breathtaking return with new EP, ‘side by side we lie awake’.
London-based duo Arctic Lake has returned with their newest EP side by side we lie awake, out now via Astralwerks Records. Featured on Lane 8‘s “Road” and “What Have You Done To Me” as well as ZHU‘s “Yours”, Arctic Lake has rapidly assembled a noteworthy discography of hits. Now, the duo continue to make a name for themselves as side by side we lie awake with the dissemination of their first solo project since 2020’s EP See Inside.
Bridging the gap between alternative-pop and soothing melodic dance music, the EP begins with a brief, lyrically grabbing intro that details infatuation at first sight. side by side we lie awake encompasses more than just a collection of songs, with lyrics journeying through an array of meaning by way of vocalist Emma Foster who teases “let me drive you mad” before she instructs to “come in closer baby.”
While the first few tracks of the EP winds through a road of inevitable highs, Arctic Lake brings the tone back down to reality with grounding vulnerability. The stunningly intimate final two tracks can be heard as a cry for help over the plush synths and melodic piano chords.
