Pretty Lightning - There Are Witches in the Woods (2012)

This album heaves and throbs as one big gloop of psychedelia, thanks to that production that holds no regard for studio polish. If the bluesy guiar squawks clip on impact with a booming bass drum, let them. If sound bleeds togehter until textures become indistinguishable, that´s fine. Pretty Lightning clearly thrive off the thrill of the liveenvironment - sharing a moment and sonically conversing as bodies within the same murky room - and by the sound of the final product, not a drop of this enthusiasm was spilled in the translation to tape. Think the mirage-inducing drones of the Black Angels fed to the ravenousenergy of the White Stripes and you´re pretty close. Keeping up with the bands seemingly endless stamina is a tough task to endure over the album´s 11 tracks, but whether it´s worh it is never in doubt.
