Dj Purple says…”The 1990s decade is referred to as “The Golden Age of House Music”. House Music gained a worldwide presence, expanding beyond Chicago (my hometown) to become a mainstay of popular culture in Europe. Radio airplay played a crucial role and Italian cities like Rimini, Perugia, Naples and Rome became meccas. Clubs were held in high esteem, equal to their UK and USA counterparts. IRMA was a label that was in the trenches at the beginning of the Italian House craze and was a defining label during the 1990s. IRMA’s releases had many key elements of the ‘90s’ Sound’: piano, jazz chords, salsa rhythms, and strong vocals - all emphasized by heavy kick drums. This mix is a collection of some of my favorite jams from that time, including a few that I heard on college radio station WKKC (89.3 FM) in Chicago and on various dancefloors in London. Since there is now a renewed interest in that segment of dance music history, this mix is dedicated to those who are new fans of the music as well as those who were involved in the movement from the beginning and remember the vibe. Enjoy the musical journey!”
