The Allman’s sessions that produced 1975's Win, Lose or Draw, the last album by the original Allman Brothers Band, were disjointed and inconsistent; Gregg Allman was largely living in Los Angeles and dating pop star Cher, and was, according to biographer Alan Paul, "becoming more famous for being famous than for his music." His vocals were recorded there, as he could not be bothered to return to Macon. Upon its release, it was considered subpar and sold less than its predecessor; the band later remarked that they were "embarrassed" about the record. • But from August 1975 to May 1976, ABB played 41 shows to some of the biggest crowds of their career. Allman later pointed to a benefit for presidential candidate Jimmy Carter (an avowed fan of the group) as among the real "high points" during this time. However, another superb gig took place at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky on 30th April 1976, when the boys performed a quite magnificent concert featuring a fine selection of numbers old and new to the enormous audience. • Recorded for live FM Radio broadcast, this show remains previously unreleased on disc, but that changes with this new CD containing as it does the full transmission recording, a true delight for fans still flying the flag for these kings of Southern boogie.
