Definitive collector's edition. Odetta, with a repertoire of traditional music, blues, gospel and protest songs, performed with a strong booming voice and spare guitar accompaniment, was an essential element of the late 50s folk and blues revival.

Two landmark albums. Bob Dylan acknowledged Sings Ballads and Blues, released in 1956, as a huge influence, turning his attention from rock 'n' roll to folk music.

Odetta was a big enough name to fill the Carnegie Hall, where she recorded a live LP in 1960 a solo concert with double bass accompaniment and backing from a church choir on three songs. Originally released on the Vanguard label, this has long been unavailable.
