Alexander Levin is a composer, saxophonist and flautist born in Israel in 1995, currently living in Manhattan, New York.
For the past six years, he has been an integral part of the world-renowned bassist Omer Avital’s band, with whom he has toured internationally and recorded three albums: “Abutbul Music,” “Qantar,” and “New York Paradox.” Levin also played on bassist Avishai Cohen’s 2014 recording “All Original” and was invited to play his original music with his band at trumpeter Avishai Cohen’s Jerusalem Jazz Festival in 2020. He has been touring with Yemen Blues since 2017.
Levin has performed as a bandleader and as a lead saxophonist in esteemed venues and festivals around the world, among them: “Marciac Jazz festival”, “New Morning” and “Duc De Lombards” in France, “Smalls” Jazz Club in NYC, “Cully Jazz Festival” in Switzerland, “Blue Note” in China, “Thailand Jazz Festival” Where he was selected to judge an international jazz competition, Wilson Live, Shablul Jazz and Beit Haamudim club in Tel Aviv.
In early 2020, Levin began hosting weekly outdoor shows with his lifelong friend Eviatar Slivnik. For almost five months, the pair hosted top Jazz artists, including Shai Maestro, Eli Degibri, Gilad Hekselman and the famous Israeli singer-songwriter Yoni Rechter. The project received widespread positive attention in Israel as the coronavirus stunted the music industry.
At eighteen, Alexander went on an international tour with the renowned funk band “The Apples,” with whom he played for two years. During that time, he also toured with the Israel jazz orchestra.
After years of musical training at Israel’s leading schools for the arts, The Arison Campus (2001 to 2010) and Thelma Yellin High School (2011 to 2013), Levin began performing professionally before graduating. Levin was selected to participate in Berklee College of Music’s prestigious “Five-Week Music Performance Intensive” in Boston, after which he won a full tuition scholarship to attend the institution. He enrolled on the “Institute Excellence Program” at the Rimon School of Music in Israel before moving to New York to become a full-time music performer.
Levin is a six-time recipient of “The America-Israel Cultural Foundation” excellence scholarship and was granted “The Israel Conservatory of Music” highest excellence scholarship in honour of “Ran Baron”.
Pursuing his long-time passion and love for film music, In 2021, Alexander started developing his Film & TV composing career. He graduated from a few film score and orchestration courses at Berklee College of Music, Boston and UCLA, California.
Alexander’s debut album “Hand Made” is coming out in 2022.
