An ellipse is a free, even liberated space; a bare space between lines and between notes. Suspended silences characterize Barbara Wiernik's new project, as well as the delicacy of the sounds which surround them and which link them as one links the points between them, to reveal the contours of a drawing...
The originality of the quartet lies in the choice of instruments. Around Barbara's voice, we find Hélène Duret on clarinet and bass clarinet, Sigrid Vandenbogaerde on cello and Bart Quartier on vibraphone and marimba.
Ellipse is bold. It is a happy mixture of chamber music, jazz and song, which oscillates between orchestrated and improvised parts.
The original texts speak of oblivion, of letting go, of bits of life, but also of committed and current subjects. The music written by Alain Pierre and Barbara is sparkling and cheerful, full of colors and vibrations, freshness and poetry.
