Double Cut is an unusual quartet made up of two saxophones, a double bass and a drums plus a series of unusual instruments. The group was born from the meeting between Tino Tracanna and Massimiliano Milesi: united by the passion for their instruments, the two come out of their respective roles of "teacher" and "pupil" and confront each other on period instruments and materials, making the idea of a sax duo, coinciding with the anniversary of the birth of Adolphe Sax (duo who in 2016 will participate in the Bergamo Jazz festival, with which Tracanna has been collaborating for years as curator of the “Scintille di Jazz” section).
Later, the experimentation developed into a pianoless quartet with the addition of Giulio Corini from Brescia on double bass and Filippo Sala, a leading exponent of the Orobic jazz new wave together with Milesi himself, on drums. Within this staff, the duo's material is further developed with the addition of new compositions. The generational confrontation between Tracanna, former collaborator of Franco D'Andrea and then a member of Paolo Fresu's quintet as well as the creator of numerous groups and projects, and the other members of the group acts as a catalyst for different materials, worlds and visions, creating a new musical place, as well as two “cuts” on a floor suggest a new space.
