MARIE SÉFÉRIAN is the daughter of the chansonnier Jean Claude Séférian (well known at least in Münster and the surrounding area) and the pianist Christiane Rieger-Séférian. The two can be proud of their musical daughter. Does she not only have an expressive voice, but also the ability to surround herself with excellent instrumentalists.
"La Princesse De Ferraille" moves between vocal acrobatics, chanson, a little bit of world music and socially acceptable bar jazz as an ode to sensuality and thoughtfulness. Excellent when MARIE SÉFÉRIAN sings to herself and gives her companions room to develop. Pianist Nicolai Thärichen strikes a balance between an inconspicuous, supportive accompanist and a lyrical and powerful soloist, which also applies to Tim Kleinsorge, whose more explicit moments on the bass are pure joy ("Windmills Of Your Mind"!). Drummer Javier Reyes fits in perfectly.
MARIE SÉFÉRIAN herself is always at her best when she drops all mannerisms and devotes her full concentration to the text and music. Her vocal escapades have a slightly academic undertone. One perceives the technology, says to oneself, not bad and waits. To what MARIE SÉFÉRIAN is really capable of: bringing the most diverse kinds of emotions to life. On an album that grows with every listen.
CONCLUSION: Great voice, great musicians. In the best moments an atmospheric as well as contemplative album, in the worse ones a mere display of one's own skills. Be that as it may, the story of the little junk princess is a graceful dance between day, night and dreams. The squeak for the sake of the squeak will eventually be overcome. Don't let them irritate you, but support "La Princesse De Farreille" financially. She deserves it. The album is a pleasure to listen to. Rating tending towards 12.
