From the liner notes by Michele Marelli: “This CD contains some of the most intense and relevant solo pieces that Karlheinz Stockhausen has composed for the basset horn, an instrument that the German composer helped to rediscover after its exclusion from the history of Western music for more than a century. These pieces represent also a personal starting point for me: driven by Suzanne Stephens and Stockhausen himself, through EVAs SPIEGEL and TRAUM-FORMEL, I learned to play the basset horn, the instrument that fascinates me the most among the clarinet family and for which I have now mastered the whole repertoire by Stockhausen that can be performed by a male player (in some works from the LICHT cycle, in fact, the basset horn represents EVA, the mother par excellence and therefore should be played by a woman)”.
