This collection collection features 7 songs written as “missing tracks” for the 7 albums at my musical foundation – albums that opened my ears to that sweet spot between the Reds and the Blues.
The brainchild of songwriter and For the Sake of the Song series founder Patrick Coman, each song in Reds & Blues was written as a "missing track" from the 7 albums that shaped Coman's musical coming of age in the shadow of Tulsa, OK's famed "Tulsa Sound". The album's mixture of blues, country, rock, and soul owes a debt to Tulsa natives like Leon Russell and JJ Cale, and nods toward a wide range of albums from Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited to the power pop of Big Star's # 1 Record, as well as the Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street, Conway Twitty's Hello Darling, Tom Petty's Wildflowers, and more.
Patrick Coman is an Okie from just north of Muskogee in Oklahoma's second city of Tulsa. Currently based in Boston, he retains his home state's knack for effortlessly blending elements of rockabilly, country, blues, rock, soul, and jazz into a cohesive whole. In addition to performing around the country he is also the host and producer of WUMB's weekly New England music program "Local Folk" and is the founder of the For the Sake of the Song tribute series.
