"A Walk," the debut album of trumpeter/composer Will Caviness, is a soulful kind of record. Featuring a 3-horn-led sextet of young, yet seasoned New York players, the music is swinging, contemplative, deep, and dynamic. Mr. Caviness, a Memphis native living in New York, possesses a rich, smoky tone on both trumpet and flugelhorn that is simultaneously beautiful and edgy. Combined two saxophonists and a rhythm section, the result is a brand new take on a classic jazz instrumentation.

The sextet consists of two stalwart saxophonists, Benjamin Drazen (Positone records artist) on alto and Sam Dillon (Monk competition semi-finalist and Orrin Evans Captain Black band member) on tenor; they add a fiery, blistering element to the record. Supporting the horns is a blazing New York rhythm section: Jeb Patton (Jimmy Heath sideman) on piano, Will Slater (Jerry Bergonzi, Winard Harper) and Pete Van Nostrand (Kenny Barron) on drums.
