Shayan - The Heart is a Candle (2022) [Hi-Res]

Hear the evocative, new work from the Melbourne-based band Shayan, led by saxophonist and composer Omid Shayan.

Omid Shayan is a saxophonist and composer from Melbourne, and for the past few years, he's fronted the collective 'Shayan'. The outfit released their debut album in 2019, incorporating elements from Iranian folk music, contemporary classical genres and jazz. In 2021, they were awarded an ABC Jazz Composer Commission, recording The Heart Is A Candle in our Melbourne studios in 2022.

ABC Jazz is proud to be sharing this new album, which Omid has dedicated to the fearless activists in Iran who are protesting human rights abuses against women and girls perpetrated by the Iranian government. The Heart Is A Candle features Omid on tenor saxophone, Flora Carbo on alto sax, Costa Hagi on bass, Anita Quayle on cello and Ronny Ferella on drums.
