A major ambassador of saxophone music the world over, Phillipe Geiss has assembled around him a veritable galaxy of prestigious guests (Vincent David, Marija Aupy, Branford Marsalis, Barry Cockcroft, the US Navy Band and others) in a tribute to fifty years of space travel and discovery, and in particular in homage to his saxophonist-astronaut friend Thomas Pesquet, to whom he helped send a saxophone when he celebrated his thirty-ninth birthday on the International Space Station.
Combining jazz, contemporary classical and various styles of traditional music, Galaxsax is a collection of pieces written or arranged by Philippe Geiss which span the period between 1961 and 2016, from Yuri Gargarin's first mission into space to Thomas Pesquet's most recent one.
