Universell Pelikan can best be described as a chamber jazz quintet, with fixed compositions that leaves room for things that are hard-swinging and groovy, but also freer expressions.
The quintet is characterized by the acoustic sound, with the harmony of trombone, baritone sax and double bass as an integral part of the ensemble sound. Peter Robertstad's compositions are often inspired by motifs from expressions, stories and narratives, as well as memorable characters met in life. These are turned into life and caricatured through the music, making the compositions appear distinctive and characteristic. The music has an unpretentious feel, with five musicians playing and having fun, relating to the music with self-irony and humor. The album is titled after the song "Feil Vei!", a song that hints at a story created in the listener's imagination. But beneath the play and fun there is also an expression of concern, are we on our way to the right place?
Peter Robertstad - trombone
Jenny Frøysa - baritone saxophone
Eirik Tveten - piano, Oda Steinkopf - bass
Steinar Heide Bø - drums
