"Eine hertzinnigliche und freüdenreiche Betrachtung/ des in der Krippen liegenden/ süssen Kindleins Jesu/..." - this quote from lyricist Johann Rist provides the motto for Werner Fabricius' compilation of Christmas music. The director of the ensemble La Protezione della Musica, Jeroen Finke, has compiled an overview of Fabricius' work under the Christmas focus.

He focuses on the two large-scale vocal instrumental compositions "In Festo Nativitatis Christi" from his major work, in addition to some more intimate carol poems for the Christmas season. The vocal works are framed by dance movements from the Deliciae Harmonicae. After the previous releases on arcantus, another very successful new discovery by the ensemble La Protezione della Musica.
