True, we haven't really recovered from Hot Wet & Sassy, TOBACCO's latest album. The American experimental electronica producer has not slowed down and especially that he is taking the next step with his successor named Skids and Angels.
Entirely instrumental, TOBACCO draws its inspiration from more glitch and IDM influences. Imagine a fusion between Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, µ-Ziq and Autechre and you will get eleven much more unstructured and experimental compositions including the very weird "Bitch Ass Moon" where you would imagine a Venetian Snares having touched too much binouze and who tries to do football.
For the rest, the Pittsburgh musician favors syrupy synths and fuzzy and unstructured beats through adventurous but strangely immersive tracks like "The Black Album" which opens the album but also "We're There" and "Giff Breed". . Skids and Angels looks very difficult to access but reveals itself to us through repeated listenings like “Dustman” and “Cercerave” which remain immersive. Nevertheless, TOBACCO surprises with "Intimacy Coordinator" and "Spiritualities" shows that his whimsical ideas manage to be transcribed into music.
